Double Olympic taekwondo champion Jade Jones of Britain has vowed to ensure she does notrepeat the mistakes she made following her London 2012 triumph after she successfully defended her under 57 kilograms title at Rio 2016.

Jones secured her second consecutive Olympic gold medal by beating Spain's Eva Calvo Gomez in the Brazilian city.

She shot to fame with her success on home soil in London but then admitted she struggled both mentally and physically to reach the same heights in the following months and years.

The 23-year-old, a World Championships silver medallist in 2011 and the reigning European Games champion, had issues with her motivation after London 2012, prompting a big dip in form.

Her coach Paul Green revealed during Rio 2016 that he feared Jones would quit the sport due to the difficult months which followed her victory four years ago at the age of 19.

But Jones has vowed to get it right this time around ahead of Tokyo 2020, where she hopes to clinch a third straight Olympic title in her division.

"I've learnt a lot of lessons from London and I'm a lot wiser," she told BBC Wales.

"I know you have to take a good enough break to mentally refresh and just to have a bit of time to yourself and enjoy the success rather than get back in the gym."

Jones already has her eyes set on Tokyo 2020, where she will bid to become the first-ever three-time Olympic taekwondo gold medallist, though she is expected to take some time out before she returns to the gym.

"No-one in taekwondo has ever done three Olympic gold medals," she added in the interview with BBC Wales.

"It's amazing to be on the same page as [two-time Olympic champions] Wu Jingyu and Steven Lopez, they're legends in taekwondo.

"They'll be retired and I can do one better and get three gold medals.

"It definitely spurs me on to think I can do that."

Green is fully confident Jones can claim a third title at Tokyo 2020, telling the Press Association: "There's no reason why she can't do the treble if she wants but it is a hard commitment over four years.

"I'm sure she will take a break then think about that.

"She also wants to become world champion because she has not been able to do that yet."
