Claudia Applewhaite, a stalwart member of the now defunct Rockets Hockey Club during its “glory days” 1968- 1975, has died.

The tall, hard-hitting, defence player who passed away last Sunday morning, will be cremated at noon tomorrow after a 9.30 a.m. Funeral Service at All Saints Anglican Church on Marli Street.

When Applewhaite, a physical education and dance teacher, retired in October 2012, she was the Physical Education teacher at Success Laventille Secondary School, and unofficial Dean of the School, after acting stints as vice principal and principal.

An excellent field hockey player, Applewhaite not only was a member of the Rockets hockey team which won the championship league from 1968 to 1975, and defeated the San Fernando hockey team of Argentina to win the Concacaf Club Championships in Mexico in 1976, but represented Trinidad and Tobago on the Schoolgirls’ National team, and on the senior National hockey team on many tours throughout the Caribbean and in Scotland in 1975 at the International Federation of Women’s Hockey Associations World Tournament Dance, however, has been her whole life, having started dancing from age three, she eventually was the teacher of modern contemporary dance at the Caribbean School of Dance and one of the lead choreographers for the Metamorphosis Dance Company
