UPCOMING OLYMPIC GAMES

T&T OLYMPIC TEAM TTO PARTNERS

With karate set to make its Olympic debut as a demonstrative sport in Tokyo 2020, a local group, the Trinidad and Tobago Karate Federation (TTKF), is calling for unification in the sport.

“The Trinidad and Tobago Karate Federation (TTKF) is ready to have discussions with other groups to address how karate in our country as a unified sport, can move forward,” the organisation said in a press release.

“If Karate does not meet some basic conditions, it may not be included after 2020. One of these is to include all karate in the Olympic process. This has been the most difficult issue to deal with for over forty years,” the release further said.

As part of its call for unity, the TTKF has invited all its local karate groups to its upcoming 4th Caribbean Cup Karate Championships (CC4). The Championships is being hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago Karate Federation (TTKF) in collaboration with USA Karate—International (USAKI) and sanctioned by the World United Karate Organisation (WUKO). Part of the proceeds will go to the T&T Cancer Society.

“It is open to all karate groups (as usual) and will be an excellent opportunity to show inclusion.” The TTKK release said. For further info interested persons can contact 868-337-6593 or email trinbagokarate001@gmail.com.
