The Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee began their first Olympic Youth Camp in 2003, and have been steadfast in their commitment to producing a youth camp each year since then. This is a non-residential camp for youngsters between the ages of twelve (12) to seventeen (17) years, that are involved in sport. The genesis of the Olympic Youth Camp goes back to antiquity and the ancient Greek gymnasia, intended as a forum for young people to learn to interact with peers from different backgrounds. The camp is not sport specific but instead, embraces the Greek concept of a healthy mind, body and spirit.
In this regard, the camp targets the holistic development of youth in Trinidad and Tobago, whilst promoting Olympic values and ideals. Participants are exposed to a number of activities, which also includes outings to various locations and workshops and other events related to various topics such as Olympic Education and Olympic Values, media training, anger management/conflict resolution, corruption and bribery, sports nutrition, anti-doping, and mental health, among many other areas.
The Annual Olympic Youth Camp has grown in popularity has been oversubscribed every year.
